Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that Deputies and Jailers at the Boone County Sheriff's Office and Jail trained yesterday, April 8, 2010, with full riot gear on Extraction from the Jail in a riot or hostage situation. While the structure of our jail would seriously inhibit either of these situations taking place, our staff must be trained and prepared for any eventuality. The Extraction Team consists of 8 Deputies and all Jail staff.
The equipment and training are designed to minimize injury to the officers or the inmates so that any situation can be controlled in the most professional manner possible. All Officers have been trained in proper cell extraction technique, and use of force for cell extraction. Training continues every 3 months for all Extraction Team members. The training is conducted by Deputy/Instructor John Contreras and Jail Administrator Jason Day.
Equipment for the team members was purchased with a grant obtained through the Department of Justice, Edward Byrne Memorial Grant program.
