Sheriff Danny Hickman report that the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call at the Omaha School on Tuesday, January 4th, in which a male reported there had been a bomb threat.
Responding deputies and school officials quickly evacuated buildings and assured the safety of the students. Sheriff Hickman said all threats of this nature are taken seriously and the first concern is to ensure the safety of students. To that end, he said his office was assisted by the Omaha Fire Department and school officials in the response to get students and staff to safety.
No bomb was found and students were kept on the ball field while officials searched.
Investigators on scene believed the threat was likely a hoax but conducted interviews at the school until they developed solid information about who was responsible for the threat and determined it was, in fact, a hoax.
Sheriff Hickman also said he anticipated charges to be formally filed on at least three juvenile males as a result of the hoax. He said the investigation is on-going, noting investigators have additional interviews to conduct and emphasized the seriousness of a high school prank that developed into a criminal act, resulting in the loss of a great deal of time and resources and creating fear in the community.
