Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that on 10/03/2011, after a month long investigation into multiple reported thefts and a search to apprehend James Michael Mallett, age 38, on outstanding warrants, Mallett turned himself in to the Carroll County Sheriffs Department.
During the interview with Boone County and Missouri detectives, Mallett admitted that he had a drug addiction and asked for help with the problem because it was why he committed the acts. Mallett confessed to five Boone County cases with a total value in property loss estimated in excess of $12,000.00, part of which included taking property from his own family members to support his habit. Thousands of dollars of other stolen property recovered in Boone County consists of a camper trailer, four-wheeler, and a Hobart welder on a trailer which were linked to thefts that occurred in Taney and Barry County Missouri. Additional cases have also been identified with the Carroll County Sheriffs Department, Berryville Police and the Branson Police Department and those charges are pending.
Mallett is currently on probation status for theft related offenses in the past and is being held at the Carroll County Sheriffs Department on outstanding warrants that include a probation revocation.
