Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that on Tuesday, October 18th, 2011, the Boone County Sheriff's Office received a report of a possible plane crash located at the south end of the runway in Harrison.
When officers arrived, they located a small four seat Piper Cherokee 180 in a field just south of the runway near Loan Oak Dairy road and Highway 392.
The pilot, Richard Dutton, 45 of Monett, MO, said he was getting low on fuel and was attempting to land at the Boone County Regional Airport. Dutton said as he was switching to another fuel tank, the aircraft died.
Dutton was able to land the aircraft in a field just short of Runway 18 located at the Boone County Regional Airport. Dutton's wife, Mary Dutton, 42 also of Monett, MO, was a passenger in the aircraft. Neither party was injured in the crash.
FAA Officials were contacted along with the NTSB, and will be in the area Wednesday morning to conduct their investigation.
Investigators from the Boone County Sheriff's Office also responded to conduct an investigation into the crash.
