Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that on Sunday, October 30th, 2011, at approximately 2:54 PM, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a man falling off of a bluff in the Bear Creek arm of Bull Shoals Lake.
Witnesses said 39 year old Johnny Montgomery of Yellville, was standing near the edge of a bluff overlooking the lake, when he tripped and fell approximately 30 feet to the ground below. Rescue efforts were engaged in by Omaha Fire Department, Lead Hill Fire Department, Arkansas Game and Fish Officer, Air-Evac and this department. Rescue workers were able to place Montgomery in a rescue basket and lower him to a boat, where he was transported to shore and then air lifted to the St. John’s Medical Center in Springfield, Missouri, for treatment.
As of 7:30 PM Sunday evening, Montgomery was listed in Critical condition and on life support at St. John’s. Further investigation determined Montgomery had been drinking at the time of the accident. Investigators with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office are continuing the investigation of the accident to determine if there was any foul play involved.
