Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that 20 year old, Coy Joseph Cook of Lead Hill was arrested Monday afternoon on a case that was initiated by the Newton County Sheriff’s Department.
A Newton County resident reported to the Newton County Sheriff’s Dept. that a check book was stolen from their residence. A number of those stolen checks were found to have been written to businesses in Boone and Baxter County. The investigation led officers to the discovery that Cook was responsible for passing the stolen checks. Cook was arrested from his residence in Lead Hill, where a portion of those stolen checks were found to still be in his possession.
Cook remains in custody at the Boone County Jail with no bond for multiple counts of forgery 2nd degree with additional charges from other agencies anticipated.
