Sheriff Danny Hickman reports that on the 16th day of May 2012, the Alpena School was broken into and numerous items were stolen including cash and a laptop computer. The responding investigators collected blood evidence at the scene near the apparent point of entry to the school.
On the 19th day of July 2012 Investigators went to the residence of Aubrey Morris, age 18, of Alpena, where he was confronted with the fact that blood collected could possibly be used to identify the perpetrator. Morris confessed to the burglary stating he cut himself while gaining entry into the school. Morris was taken into custody at that time.
A second male of Alpena was also brought to the Sheriff’s Office by Investigators for an interview. During the interview, Eric A. Ballard, age 20, confessed to breaking into the Alpena School with Morris and stealing approximately $620 worth of Alpena School District property and cash.
Both Morris and Ballard were charged with Breaking or Entering and Theft of Property with bond set at $10,000.00 apiece. Investigators were unable to recover any of the cash and items taken from the school. Both suspects have been bonded out of the Boone County Jail at the time of this release.
