On 8/06/12 the Boone County Sheriff's Department responded to a call from a resident who reported finding a possible explosive device that was found near their mailbox at the intersection of Sandy Lane and Highway 43 South. Officers responded to the location finding a plastic container, wrapped with tape. There was evidence of shrapnel type materials taped around the container. The Bentonville Bomb Squad was called to the scene and rendered the device safe. The device was reported as containinig additional shrapnel materials, but no explosive type chemicals or detonation triggers were found. It was believed that the device found went undetected for an undetermined period of time before it was discovered. The department is currently looking into the matter as an instrument of a crime that caused fear of physical injury to the public and the person that found the device.
Sheriff Hickman also reports that his department along with the Federal Bureau of Investigations is still investigating the pipe bomb that was found at the Latter-Day Saints Church which was found on Easter earlier this year. Anybody having information concering either of these incidents is encouraged to contact the Boone County Investigation Division.
