Sheriff Mike Moore issued an update to the investigation centering on Angelique Evans-Artuso today, saying investigators felt the woman was no longer in danger. Sheriff Moore declined to release all of the specific details, but did say his office had been able to determine the woman was seen in public a few hours after the incident and was not being held against her will at that time.
Angelique “Angel” Evans-Artuso had been sought since January 30th after she was reported to have been taken against her will by her estranged husband, Gary Evans. Investigators spoke to a woman by phone that identified herself as Angelique Evans-Artuso, and although her identity was not positively verified they feel it was indeed the missing woman.
Gary Evans is still being sought for questioning in the incident as well as for outstanding warrants for an unrelated offense. Sheriff Moore said his office would continue to try to find both Gary and Angel Evans; although Angel has been removed from the National Crime Information Center’s Missing / Endangered list, the case is still being actively investigated. Moore also expressed his appreciation for the assistance of the public in providing tips in the case.
