On Wednesday, July 31st, 2013, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office received a call of numerous shots being fired at a residence on Highway 43 south near the Newton County line.
When Deputies arrived on scene, they could hear numerous shots being fired at the residence. The female victim who called authorities said her boyfriend was at the residence with several guns and was hallucinating and shooting inside the house. In fear for her life she left the residence and called 911 for assistance.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Group arrived on scene and immediately deployed two officers to conduct covert surveillance on the residence. While the officers were in the woods, more shots were fired and the Special Operations Group deployed to the residence. As the SOG Team arrived at the residence, 52 year old Thomas Murst of Harrison was standing on the front porch of the residence holding a rifle. SOG Team members were able to talk Murst into dropping the weapon and Murst was taken into custody without incident.
Murst was arrested for Aggravated Assault and transported to the Boone County Jail and is currently awaiting a psychological examination.
