Sheriff Mike Moore reports that on June 11, 2014 at approximately 2PM Boone County Deputies responded to the Alpena area regarding a suspicious vehicle. Information provided was that a black SUV was observed parked stationary for a period of time near the location where three young girls ages 11 and one 10 year old were playing within the Alpena city limits. A second vehicle described as a rusty white pickup truck also pulled up to the location a short time later when the black SUV approached the girls. The three girls fled to a local business after becoming frightful that the black SUV was approaching them. It was reported that the suspicious vehicle followed the young girls to the business before leaving the area. There was no report of verbal exchange between the occupant of the vehicle and the girls and it is undetermined at this time if the vehicle occupants were acquainted with the girls. Officers that responded to the area were not able to locate the suspect vehicles and the case is currently under investigation.
The Sheriff warns that child abductions do occur across the country and that parents should take precautions to avoid the loss of a loved one. Any vehicles or persons that appear suspicious should be reported to this office so that officers may investigate the matter.
