Small Plane Crash at Harrison Airport

On Wednesday, July 2nd, 2014, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a downed aircraft in a field on the west end of the runway at the Boone County Regional Airport in Harrison.

Investigator’s on scene are still investigating the crash but initial findings are the aircraft, a 1964 Piper Twin Comanche left runway 36 traveling north and when the aircraft attempted a left turn, went down in the field just west of the runway staying on the airport property.

Pilot George Atiyeh, 66 years of age from Lyons, Oregon was airlifted to Mercy Hospital in Springfield, Missouri for significant injuries sustained in the crash. Atiyeh was the only person on board the aircraft at the time. Mercy Hospital listed Atiyeh’s condition as serious.

The NTSB (National Transportation and Safety Board) was contacted and the scene will turned over to that agency once they arrive on the scene.
