Sheriff Moore reports that two arrests have been made involving the theft of over 50 head of cattle from owners in Boone and surrounding counties. The cattle were sold at auctions around Northwest Arkansas and Southwest Missouri.
Shane Joseph Horn, 30 from Valley Springs, and Aaron Wesley Sayres, 29 from Harrison, have both been charged with Felony Theft of Property.
Working with Sheriff Keith Slape in Newton County and the Arkansas State Police, investigators developed a possible lead on who might have been committing the area cattle thefts. With the assistance of the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Horn was taken into custody at the Farmer’s Livestock Auction in Springdale while in possession of stolen cattle.
Records from area livestock auctions show that Horn and Sayres were responsible for selling and netting over $67,000.00 in profits from cattle sales within three months. Investigators were able to determine that Horn and Sayres obtained at least a portion of the stolen cattle from a 250 acre farm located in the Alpena area of Boone County. Those cattle were sold.
Other area cattle thefts that have been reported are not yet connected to the two arrested, however, the investigation is still on-going. Both Horn and Sayres have posted bond on their charges and are awaiting court appearances.
