On 01/05/2016 at 3:14AM the Boone County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call of an aggravated robbery at the Bellefonte Exxon Station. The clerk on duty reported that an unknown male individual wearing a monkey mask entered the business, brandished a firearm and demanded money. The suspect was reported to have gotten away with less than a thousand dollars in small bills and change.
Though the course of the investigation, Boone County Investigators were able to identify 24 year old Austin Angel of Harrison, as a person of interest in the case. With the assistance of the Harrison Police Detectives, officers apprehended Angel hiding in a bathroom cabinet at a residence in Harrison.
Angel was taken into custody on outstanding warrants and ultimately charged for aggravated robbery when a confession was obtained from the store clerk admitting her knowledge of the individual and the pre-planned robbery.
The store clerk identified as 31 year old Julie Mitchell of Harrison, who had been employed with the Bellefonte Exxon for less than a month, has also been charged with robbery for her involvement in the case. Both Mitchell and Angel are being held at the Boone County Jail with each having a $150,000.00 bond.
