Sheriff Mike Moore announced that two arrests have been made surrounding the disappearance of 28 year old Jeremy Scroggins. Jeremy was reported missing on June 27th after he left his home in Harrison which led to a three month investigation into his disappearance.
The investigation by Arkansas State Police and Boone County Sheriff’s Office turned up Jeremy’s association with 22 year old Shay Butler of Harrison on the night of his disappearance. Butler was actually incarcerated at the Boone County Jail awaiting transport to the regional punishment facility to serve a 90 day sentence for offenses unrelated to this case when he was questioned about his involvement. It was determined that Butler along with 25 year old Morgan Vaughn had picked up Scroggins , then drove to a rural location in Boone County where he planned to rob Scroggins. Butler admitted that he shot Scroggins during the robbery.
Investigators have recovered the remains of Scroggins which will be sent to the crime lab for analysis and positive identification. Both Butler and Vaughan are currently being held at the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and are being charged with Capital Murder and Aggravated Robbery offenses.
