08/22/2024

Sheriff Roy Martin reports that on August 21st, 2024, Investigators with the Boone County Sheriff's Office were contacted by Detectives with the Branson Police Department, requesting assistance with the apprehension of a fugitive. BPD had been assisting Law Enforcement in the state of Colorado in attempting to locate a male named Corey Lee Handy, who was accused of taking a female against her will with a firearm in the state of Colorado. Handy had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for Kidnapping an Adult along with an additional warrant from the Colorado Department of Corrections for a parole violation on his original charges of Murder in the First Degree, a 2012 conviction for which Handy was currently out on parole. BPD and Colorado Law Enforcement believed that Handy had been staying in the Branson area for some days after his flight from Colorado.

On the morning of August 21st, BPD detectives had located Handy's known vehicle at a residence in Harrison, AR in the area of E. Washington Ave. BCSO Investigators and Patrol Deputies responded to the area and set up a surveillance operation of the residence and surrounding streets. BCSO also made contact with the Harrison Police Department for assistance and for the deployment of their Special Operations Team. Before officers were able to serve a search warrant on the residence, Handy departed the residence in his vehicle. Officers with BPD, BCSO, and HPD were able to successfully block Handy's vehicle on E. Washington Ave and take Handy into custody without incident. Handy is currently being held at the Boone County Jail awaiting extradition to the state of Colorado.
